1. Other Common Greetings:

How do you say "good morning", "good afternoon", "good evening" in Chinese?

(1) 早上好![Zǎoshang hǎo!] Good morning!

"早上" means "morning", as you've learned, "好" means "good".

早上[zǎoshang] + 好[hǎo] = 早上好[zǎoshang hǎo]

It literally means "morning good".

E.g.

A: 早上好,老师!

Zǎoshang hǎo, lǎoshī!

Good morning, teacher!

B: 早上好!

Zǎoshang hǎo!

Good morning!


(2) 下午好![Xiàwǔ hǎo!] Good afternoon!

"下午" means “afternoon”, as you know "好" means "good".

下午[xiàwǔ] + 好[hǎo] = 下午好[xiàwǔ hǎo]

It literally means "afternoon good".

E.g.

A: 下午好!

Xiàwǔ hǎo!

Good afternoon!

B: 下午好!

Xiàwǔ hǎo!

Good afternoon!


(3) 晚上好![Wǎnshang hǎo!] Good evening!

"晚上" means “evening”, and “好” means “good”.

So 晚上好[wǎnshang hǎo] literally means "evening good".

E.g.

A: 晚上好!

Wǎnshang hǎo!

Good evening!

B: 晚上好!

Wǎnshang hǎo!

Good evening!
